Chip production push

Suchi Semicon has expressed strong commitment to India’s semiconductor ambitions after the Union Cabinet approved its new project in Gujarat under the India Strategic chip production push.
The project, with an outlay of around ₹868 crore, is part of a broader push to strengthen domestic chip manufacturing.
The Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved two semiconductor projects — Crystal Matrix Limited and Suchi Semicon — with a combined investment of nearly ₹3,936 crore. Together, these initiatives are expected to generate employment for about 2,230 skilled professionals and strengthen India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Founder and Chairman Ashok Mehta said the approval marks a significant milestone for the company and contributes to India’s long-term goal of building self-reliant capabilities in a strategically important sector. He emphasised that semiconductors power essential technologies ranging from vehicles and industrial machinery to communication devices and defence systems.
Under the mission framework, Suchi Semicon is establishing an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Surat, Gujarat. The unit will cater to domestic and global demand across power electronics, analog integrated circuits, and industrial applications, supporting supply chain resilience.
Industry experts noted that the addition of advanced semiconductor segments such as compound semiconductors, Mini/Micro-LED manufacturing, and GaN-based technologies will strengthen India’s position in next-generation electronics. These developments are expected to reduce import dependence while boosting innovation and high-skilled job creation.
India Electronics and Semiconductor Association President Ashok Chandak highlighted that such projects will enhance India’s capabilities in advanced displays, automotive electronics, wearables, and industrial systems.
The Crystal Matrix facility in Dholera will further support compound semiconductor fabrication, testing, and packaging, reinforcing India’s ambition to emerge as a trusted global semiconductor manufacturing hub.
