Sauharda Setuve bridge nears completion in Beltangady

Sauharda Setuve bridge over Netravati River nears completion, promising improved connectivity between Ajilamogaru and Kadeshwalya and easing travel across Bantwal region villages

The construction of the Sauharda Setuve is in its final stages, marking a major step toward improved connectivity between Ajilamogaru and Kadeshwalya in Dakshina Kannada district.

The bridge, which spans the Netravati River near Punjalkatte, is designed to link the Ajilamogaru mosque and the Kadeshwalya Sri Lakshmi Narasimha temple, symbolising communal harmony and regional connectivity. The project is now witnessing rapid progress after earlier delays.

Key structural work, including completion of two pillars and installation of girders on the Kadeshwalya side, has already been finished. Final finishing works are currently underway, with authorities aiming to complete the remaining tasks before the monsoon season.

The project was conceptualised in 2017 and formally launched under then-minister B Ramanath Rai. It was sanctioned at a cost of ₹19.84 crore by the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL). The contract was awarded to a Chennai-based firm, with an original completion deadline set for 2021.

However, progress was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, labour shortages, and subsequent administrative setbacks. Despite multiple attempts to expedite construction, the project slowed until renewed local pressure and government intervention revived the work.

A temporary mud road had earlier been laid near the bridge site to assist material transport and provide short-term connectivity for commuters and devotees attending local events.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel distance between several villages across Bantwal, Puttur, and Beltangady taluks, improving daily commuting and regional access. Local residents and community groups are now urging authorities to inaugurate the bridge at the earliest.
