Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has been appointed head of cricket operations at the Hyderabad Cricket Association, marking a significant administrative shift aimed at revitalising the region’s cricketing structure.
Rayudu, who assumes the role on a three-year term, outlined an ambitious roadmap focused on reform, transparency and professionalism. Central to his vision is the separation of cricketing matters from administrative processes, ensuring that players remain the top priority.
“I want to serve Hyderabad cricket and build a system where fairness and merit drive selection across all age groups,” Rayudu said, addressing long-standing concerns over transparency. He emphasised that improving player welfare and streamlining operations would be his primary responsibilities.
One of his immediate goals is to tackle corruption and reduce human interference in decision-making. Rayudu revealed plans to introduce a structured player contract system, similar to models adopted by leading state associations, to bring accountability and stability. He also proposed automation of cricketing operations to enhance efficiency and eliminate bias.
Looking ahead, the former middle-order batter aims to establish a state-of-the-art centre of excellence, drawing inspiration from facilities in Bengaluru. He stressed the importance of open trials to identify and nurture grassroots talent, ensuring equal opportunities for aspiring cricketers across the state.
HCA secretary M. Jeevan Reddy highlighted parallel efforts to expand cricket infrastructure beyond urban centres. New grounds have been developed in Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar, while land has been acquired in Nizamabad. Plans are also underway to secure venues in Khammam, Warangal and Nalgonda in the coming months.
In a bid to strengthen governance, the association has constituted a four-member anti-corruption unit headed by Retd. Justice Pingle Vijender. Additionally, a user-friendly grievance redressal system will be introduced to address players’ concerns more effectively.
Rayudu’s appointment signals a fresh chapter for Hyderabad cricket, with expectations high that his experience and reform-driven approach will help restore credibility and competitiveness to the domestic setup.
