Mumbai to launch first Women’s T20 League

MUMBAI

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced a landmark moment for local cricket with the launch of the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League. The tournament will run alongside the fourth season of the men’s league from June 1 to 13 at the historic Wankhede Stadium, creating a massive double-header for fans.

This new competition aims to provide a high-profile stage for female athletes. Big names like Sayali Satghare and Saima Thakor will feature alongside teenage sensation Ira Jadhav, who recently became the most expensive player at the auction. MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated that hosting both events together reflects the city’s commitment to building a more inclusive and diverse cricket ecosystem.

The men’s side remains equally star-studded, featuring global icons such as Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ajinkya Rahane. For many young stars, playing at the Wankhede is a dream come true. League Chairman Rajdip Gupta noted that the tournament will be broadcast nationwide on Star Sports and streamed on JioHotstar, giving local talent invaluable exposure to a massive audience.

By putting men’s and women’s cricket on the same stage, the MCA is setting a new standard for domestic leagues in India. The simultaneous tournaments are expected to draw huge crowds and discover the next generation of international stars. Fans can look forward to nearly two weeks of high-quality, competitive cricket as Mumbai’s finest battle it out for glory under the stadium lights.
