Junior hockey teams ready for Australia clash

BHOPAL

Hockey India has officially announced the twenty-four-member squads for the upcoming Under-18 Men’s and Women’s series against Australia. This high-stakes tournament will be held at the SAI Central Centre in Bhopal from May 15 to 20, serving as a vital warm-up for the Asia Cup in Japan later this month.

The final players were chosen after a week of intense training and testing. Forward Ketan Kushwaha has been appointed as the captain for the Men’s team, while Sweety Kujur will lead the Women’s side. Both teams have been trimmed down from a larger group of forty-two players to ensure only the most fit and tactically sharp athletes take the field.

Legendary former players are guiding these young stars. Sardar Singh, who mentors the Men’s team, believes playing against a fast-paced Australian side is the perfect way to test the boys’ discipline. Meanwhile, former captain Rani is coaching the Women’s team. She described the four-match series as a “dress rehearsal” that will show exactly where the players stand before they head to the international stage.

The series is expected to draw large crowds in Bhopal as fans gather to see the future of Indian hockey. For these teenagers, it is more than just a game, it is a golden opportunity to prove they can handle the pressure of international competition. With expert coaching and tough opponents, the stage is set for an exciting week of world-class junior hockey.
