IPL final shift not linked to MLAs’ ticket demand, says DCM Shivakumar

BENGALURU

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Wednesday clarified that the reported shifting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) final from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad has no connection with demands from MLAs for match tickets.

Responding to media queries near his Sadashivanagar residence, Shivakumar said the decision was likely based on logistical considerations, including stadium capacity. “Ahmedabad has a larger stadium where more spectators can be accommodated. The shifting of the final has nothing to do with distribution of tickets to MLAs,” he said.

Addressing speculation around ticket allocations, he added that certain portions are typically reserved and such arrangements are not unusual. When asked about statements attributed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the issue, Shivakumar said he would respond appropriately if required. “Let them make their statement, I will give a proper reply,” he remarked.

On internal party matters, including the suspension of some Muslim leaders in Davanagere, the Deputy Chief Minister declined to comment, stating that the decision was taken by the party leadership. He noted that responsibilities assigned within the party must be handled effectively, and action is taken when expectations are not met. He also confirmed that one of the leaders had resigned voluntarily and the resignation was accepted.

Regarding a possible visit to New Delhi by the Chief Minister and himself, Shivakumar said such trips are made only when called by the party high command. “We will go when we are called. It is not appropriate to go uninvited,” he said.

On Congress extending support to TVK in Tamil Nadu, he said the move was aimed at keeping the BJP out of power and strengthening secular forces, adding that the decision was taken in the broader interest of the state.
