A sudden hill fire near Gaurampet in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district triggered panic among residents flames were spotted around 9:30 PM behind a fuel station area.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by extreme summer heat conditions, according to preliminary observations by officials. The blaze quickly spread across the hill slope, alarming nearby residents and prompting immediate alerts to emergency services.
Fire and emergency personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and began firefighting operations. However, efforts were significantly hampered due to the absence of proper road connectivity to the hilltop, preventing fire tenders from reaching the exact location.
Devadurga witnessed tense moments as flames continued to spread in the dry vegetation area near Gaurampet, located behind a Bharat Petroleum outlet. Locals in surrounding foothill areas remained on edge as the situation developed.
Fire officer Ravikumar stated that lack of access routes has made operations difficult, but teams are making continuous efforts to bring the fire under control. Forest officials also indicated that the rising temperature and dry conditions are likely contributing factors.
Alimuddin noted that intense heat conditions in the region may have triggered the incident, though the exact cause is still under assessment.
Authorities are continuing firefighting operations, while residents have expressed concern over recurring fire risks during peak summer. Officials are also expected to assess the need for improved access routes and preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future, especially in dry and forest-adjacent areas.
