Engineer attacked, robbed after dating app meet in Yelahanka; two arrested

BENGALURU

A 27-year-old civil engineer was brutally attacked and robbed after being lured into a meeting by a man he befriended on a dating app, in an incident reported under the Yelahanka police station limits.

Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case and initiated proceedings against two other juveniles allegedly involved in the crime.

According to the complaint, the victim had been using a dating app for the past three years and had recently come into contact with one of the accused. After exchanging phone numbers and building a rapport, the accused invited him to meet at Palanahalli Gate on May 1.

When the complainant arrived at the location, he was taken in a car by the accused and his associates. The situation soon turned violent, with the group verbally abusing and threatening him. They snatched his mobile phone and demanded the password to access his financial applications.

When he resisted, the assailants allegedly stabbed him multiple times in the thigh with a knife, causing serious injuries. They then forced him to transfer Rs 16,000 before abandoning him in a deserted area and fleeing the scene.

Despite his injuries, the victim managed to contact a friend, who rushed him to a hospital for treatment. He later approached the Yelahanka police and lodged a formal complaint.

During the investigation, police tracked down and arrested two of the accused. Officials said two other boys involved in the crime, identified as juveniles in conflict with the law, are also being dealt with as per legal provisions.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the accused may have targeted multiple victims using the same modus operandi. Police suspect that at least eight others may have been similarly extorted and are continuing investigations to uncover the full extent of the racket.
