Darshan H V, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, has directed officials to strengthen the implementation of skill development programmes and increase awareness about vendor loan schemes.

Chairing a District Skill Mission meeting, he emphasised that employment-oriented training is key to enabling youth to pursue self-employment and become financially independent. He highlighted major initiatives like PM SVANIDHI and NIPUN as important tools for empowering small traders and young people.

The DC noted that the PM SVANIDHI scheme, launched in June 2020, provides micro-credit support to street vendors in urban local body limits. He stressed the need to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are informed about the scheme. The programme has now been extended by the central government until March 2030, with objectives including financial inclusion, promotion of digital transactions, capacity building, and social security support for vendors and their families.

Officials informed that the scheme is being expanded in phases to cover census towns, statutory towns, and semi-urban areas, widening its reach. Targets have been set for disbursing loans across multiple phases, and strict adherence to guidelines has been mandated.

Darshan H V instructed that directions be communicated through taluk panchayat executive officers to panchayat development officers and NRLM staff to ensure effective implementation across all gram panchayats in the district.

The meeting was attended by Jayalakshmi Rayakod, Pradeep D’Souza, and other departmental officials, who discussed strategies to improve outreach and execution of the schemes.
