After maintaining silence for over a day during and after the counting process, Moitra took to the social media platform X to share her views on the election outcome. In her post, she emphasized that the decision of the electorate must be respected, stating that the will of the people remains paramount in a democracy.
Her reaction comes after the Trinamool Congress suffered a significant setback in West Bengal, with the Bharatiya Janata Party securing a decisive victory across multiple constituencies. Moitra noted that while the outcome was not in her party’s favor, the TMC had put up a strong fight despite what she described as unimaginable odds on an uneven pitch.
Earlier on counting day, Moitra had been vocal about alleged irregularities, raising concerns over electronic voting machines and power disruptions at strongrooms. However, as results began to stabilize, she refrained from further public comments until her latest statement.
Her final social media update before the silence was posted early in the morning from Tehatta, located in her Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency, which ultimately went to the BJP. The delay in her response drew attention, given her usually outspoken presence on political developments.
In her statement, Moitra reiterated her party’s commitment to constitutional values and secular principles. She asserted that the Trinamool Congress would continue its political struggle to uphold a vision of governance rooted in the Constitution rather than what she termed brute majoritarianism.
Concluding her remarks on a resolute note, Moitra affirmed that her party would remain steadfast in advocating for democratic ideals and safeguarding the country’s secular fabric, signaling that despite the electoral setback, the TMC intends to remain an active force in national politics.
