BELTHANGADY
A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 49-year-old man in Belalu Peth. The victim, identified as Jaya Mestri, died on the spot after a heavy crane vehicle crashed into the back of his scooter.
Mestri was a resident of Balanja village but had been living in a rented house near Belalu to be close to his workplace. He earned his living as a rubber tapping worker, a common trade in this region. Witnesses at the scene described a sudden and violent collision that gave the rider no chance to escape.
Upon receiving the news, officers from the Belthangady Traffic Police Station rushed to the site to manage the situation. After conducting a preliminary investigation and documenting the scene, the authorities shifted the body to the Belthangady Taluk Government Hospital for further formalities.
The local police have officially registered an accident case against the driver of the crane. This heartbreaking incident has once again raised concerns among residents about the safety of two-wheeler riders when sharing narrow roads with heavy industrial machinery. As the community mourns the loss of a hardworking local man, the police are continuing their inquiry to determine if mechanical failure or driver negligence led to the fatal crash. The crane involved in the accident has been taken into custody as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
