Delhi CM Visits Vivek Vihar Fire Site, Assures Support to Victims

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday visited the site of the devastating fire in Vivek Vihar that claimed nine lives, offering condolences to grieving families and assuring full government support in the aftermath of the tragedy.

During her visit, Gupta met survivors and bereaved relatives, expressing solidarity with those affected by the incident. She assured families that the Delhi government stands firmly with them in this difficult time and will extend all possible assistance for relief and rehabilitation. The Chief Minister’s visit comes just days after the tragic blaze that shook the Vivek Vihar locality, leaving several injured and nine people dead, including a toddler.

Earlier, reacting to the incident, Gupta had expressed deep sorrow, describing the fire as extremely tragic and distressing. She noted that the injured were receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities and conveyed her prayers for their speedy recovery. Extending her condolences to the families of the deceased, she said she hoped they would find the strength to endure the immense loss.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the coordinated response of various agencies involved in rescue and relief operations. She stated that senior officials from the local administration, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Police were actively engaged in handling the situation with urgency and efficiency.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning at around 4 A.M. on the second floor of a four-storey residential building in Vivek Vihar. Authorities quickly responded, dispatching 14 fire engines to the scene. The blaze was eventually brought under control by approximately 6 A.M. after intensive firefighting efforts.

Rescue teams evacuated around 15 people from the building. While several sustained minor injuries and were shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment, nine individuals lost their lives in the incident.

Police and fire officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary findings have confirmed the casualties, and authorities continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the tragedy while ensuring support for the affected families.
