Theatre and performing arts play a key role in building a cultured society, said Dr H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, at the valedictory of the two-day “Anandootsava” organised by Rangabhoomi Udupi.
He noted that art forms such as drama, Yakshagana, and theatre have flourished in Udupi due to sustained support from organisations and entrepreneurs. He said individuals who contribute positively through creative and social work become valuable assets to society.
The event was held at the new Ravindra Mantapa of MGM College in memory of late Kuppadi Ananda Ganiga, founder of Rangabhoomi Udupi. During the ceremony, Manohar S Shetty, head of Sai Radha group of institutions, was conferred the “Tallur’s Samskruti Sadhaka Award”, sponsored by the Tallur Girija Shivaram Shetty family trust.
Speaking after receiving the award, Manohar S Shetty said that messages conveyed through theatre serve as a guiding light for society. He appreciated Rangabhoomi Udupi for nurturing many talented artists and recalled the contributions of Ananda Ganiga in strengthening the organisation.
Dr Tallur Shivaram Shetty, president of Rangabhoomi Udupi, said that Ananda Ganiga dedicated 45 years to the growth of the organisation. He added that 15 achievers have been honoured through the award initiative so far.
Dr Sudhakar Shetty, Girija Shivaram Shetty, Sunil Kumar Shetty, Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor, N R Ballal, Anuradha Manohar Shetty, and others were present on the occasion.
The programme highlighted the importance of preserving cultural traditions and encouraging young artists to contribute to society through performing arts.
