Police have registered a case against 15 members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) following a protest that turned violent at Kuvempu University in Bhadravati rural limits.
The FIR was filed at Bhadravati Rural Police Station based on a complaint by Assistant Registrar Nagaraj. The complaint alleges that protesters damaged property inside the university administrative building and created panic among staff.
According to officials, the group entered the campus during a protest against fee hikes, delayed results, and administrative issues. The complaint states that protesters broke flower pots, damaged plastic chairs, and defaced nameplates inside the administrative office area.
University staff members who tried to control the situation were allegedly pushed and threatened during the incident. Officials claim the damage caused losses of around ₹4 lakh.
The complaint also names NSUI district president Vijay Kumar and others, seeking legal action for the incident.
Police said around 10 members were taken into custody and later released after preliminary questioning.
The protest had been organized earlier over several student grievances, including delays in examination results and issuance of marks cards. Students also raised concerns over fee increases and administrative delays in academic processing.
Officials said that semester results for several courses were pending for months, causing difficulties for students completing their degrees. There were also complaints about delays in issuing certificates, affecting job opportunities for graduates.
Authorities are continuing the investigation, and further action will be taken based on evidence and statements from both sides. The situation at the university is now under control, police confirmed.
