Greta Gerwig Narnia Film Postponed For Expanded Theatrical Release

Director Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew has officially been delayed until 2027. The fantasy film, based on the famous Narnia book series by C. S. Lewis, will now release in theatres worldwide on February 12, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on April 2, 2027.

The movie was originally planned for a Thanksgiving 2026 release. However, the makers decided to postpone it to allow a wider theatrical release. Early preview screenings will also begin on IMAX screens from February 10, 2027.

The film features a strong cast including Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep and Emma Mackey. Emma Mackey will play the role of Jadis, the White Witch, while David McKenna appears as Diggory.

The story serves as a prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and explores the magical creation of Narnia by Aslan. It follows children Diggory and Polly as they travel through magical worlds using enchanted rings.

Greta Gerwig expressed excitement about bringing the story to life and said she deeply loved the book since childhood. IMAX also supported the delayed release, stating that the film deserved a full theatrical experience. Music for the project will be composed by Mark Ronson, who earlier worked with Gerwig on Barbie. Netflix obtained the rights to all seven Narnia books in 2018, becoming the first company to control the complete series
