Members of the Shramikara Sangha (Workers’ Association) observed Labour Day by highlighting the crucial role of workers in building society and driving economic progress across sectors.
Speaking at the event, association leaders said that the foundation of global development rests on the hard work and dedication of labourers. They noted that workers contribute significantly to infrastructure development, services, and everyday economic activities, often without adequate recognition.
Speakers emphasized that every stage of development—from construction and manufacturing to transport and essential services—is sustained by the efforts of the working class. They said that Labour Day serves as a reminder to acknowledge and respect this contribution.
The association also called for stronger protection of workers’ rights, including fair wages, improved working conditions, and better access to social security benefits. They stressed that ensuring dignity and security for labourers is essential for building an equitable society.
Participants urged society and policymakers to give greater importance to the welfare of workers and to implement measures that improve their quality of life. They also highlighted the need for awareness about labour rights among workers themselves so they can better advocate for their interests.
The event was organised as part of International Labour Day observance and aimed to honour the contribution of workers across various industries. Members of the association reaffirmed their commitment to continuing advocacy for labour welfare and social justice initiatives.
The gathering concluded with tributes to workers from different sectors, acknowledging their role as the backbone of economic development and societal progress.
