The Mumbai Cricket Association has officially named Sayali Satghare, Saima Thakor, and Humaira Kazi as “Icon Players” for the first-ever T20 Mumbai Women’s League. This major announcement marks a historic step forward for women’s cricket in the city as teams begin to take shape for the upcoming season.
Sayali Satghare will lead the charge for the SoBo Mumbai Falcons, while Saima Thakor joins the Thane Sky Risers and Humaira Kazi signs with the Aakash Tigers. Both Sayali and Saima bring valuable international experience from their time with the Indian national team. Humaira is also highly regarded as a top domestic player with experience in the India A squad.
The league is creating massive excitement, with over 2,400 players including 363 women registering for the official auction taking place this Saturday. Each women’s team will select a squad of up to 18 players to ensure the competition remains fierce and balanced.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated that these icons will provide the leadership needed to inspire the next generation of female athletes. He believes the league will serve as a long-term platform to find and grow local talent. League Chairman Rajdip Gupta added that these star players are the foundation for building strong team identities. With the auction just a day away, the city is buzzing with anticipation as Mumbai prepares to showcase its incredible depth of cricketing talent on a brand-new professional stage.
