PSG suffer major setback as Achraf Hakimi ruled out of Bayern semifinal clash

Paris

Paris Saint-Germain F.C. have suffered a major setback ahead of their UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg after star defender Achraf Hakimi was ruled out with a thigh injury.

The French champions confirmed on Wednesday that Hakimi sustained an injury to his right thigh and is expected to remain sidelined for the next few weeks. The Moroccan international will now miss PSG’s decisive clash against Bayern Munich on May 6 in Germany.

PSG currently hold a narrow 5-4 advantage heading into the second leg, but the absence of Hakimi is a significant blow for manager Luis Enrique.

Hakimi appeared to struggle physically during the closing stages of Tuesday’s thrilling first leg in Paris. Despite visible discomfort, he continued playing as PSG had already exhausted all available substitutions.

The 27-year-old defender has been one of PSG’s most influential players this season and finished sixth in last year’s Ballon d’Or rankings. His pace, attacking runs and defensive contributions have played a key role in the club’s European campaign.

Young midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery is expected to fill in at right-back during Hakimi’s absence. The 20-year-old has previously impressed with his versatility and maturity despite his young age.

Hakimi’s injury has also raised concerns over his availability for Morocco national football team ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup preparations.

PSG were dealt another setback after second-choice goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier was also ruled out of the trip to Munich because of injury.

The Paris-based club will now hope to overcome the absences and protect their slender aggregate lead to secure a place in the Champions League final.
