Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said Gujarat has demonstrated a transition from anti-incumbency to pro-incumbency politics, highlighting sustained public support for development-oriented governance. In a letter to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on the state’s 66th foundation day, he credited consistent electoral victories to effective governance and citizen-focused policies.

In his message, the Prime Minister extended greetings to the people of Gujarat and described the occasion as significant, particularly in light of recent local self-government election results. He stated that the outcome reflects public approval of the state government’s efforts to accelerate development and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Modi noted that while political discourse often revolves around anti-incumbency sentiments, Gujarat has set a contrasting example by consistently supporting incumbent governments. According to him, this shift indicates growing trust among voters in leadership that delivers tangible progress and remains responsive to public needs.

He further highlighted that since 1995, his party has received uninterrupted support in the state across multiple elections. This continuity, he said, has ensured political stability, which is crucial for long-term development planning and execution. Stable governance, he added, enables the implementation of large-scale reforms and infrastructure projects that benefit the wider population.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to those who played a role in the formation of Gujarat and the Mahagujarat movement, acknowledging their lasting influence on the state’s identity and progress. He said their contributions continue to inspire future generations and serve as a reminder of collective responsibility toward development.

Describing Gujarat as a land where tradition and modernity coexist, Modi emphasised its strong entrepreneurial culture and leading manufacturing capacity in India. He pointed out that the state’s name has gained recognition across the country, reflecting its economic and cultural prominence.

Referring to resilience, he cited the example of the Somnath Temple, which has been rebuilt multiple times despite historical destruction, symbolising faith and perseverance. He also mentioned his upcoming visit to commemorate 75 years of the temple’s re-consecration in 1951.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that Gujarat had faced challenges in the past, including periods of instability and social tensions, but praised the people for overcoming these difficulties.
