Hulasur Sri Shivanand Mahaswamiji has been selected for the State-level Basava Siri Award 2026, instituted by Basava Prakashana in memory of late Smt. Basamma B. Konek, organisers announced.
The Sri, who heads the Gurubasaveshwara Sansthan Math at Hulasur in Bidar district, has been recognised for his significant contributions to the spread of Basava philosophy, vachana literature, and social reform thought. He is also regarded as one of the early modern vachana writers from the region, with works that reflect spiritual and social values.
The award carries a cash prize of ₹11,000 along with a citation. It will be presented on May 1 at 10 am during the Kayaka Day programme scheduled at the Chamber of Commerce hall in the Super Market area of Kalaburagi, organisers said.
On the occasion, several literary and academic activities have been planned. Registrar of Central University of Karnataka Prof. R. R. Biradar, along with Dr. C. R. Chandrashekar, will release five books, including Kayaka Sharanaru edited by Sharanabasappa Vaddanakere. The books will be introduced by writer Gavisiddappa Patil. Writer Kavyashree Mahaganvkar will attend as chief guest. The programme will be presided over by publisher Basavaraj Konek, while Prof. Shivraj Patil will deliver the introductory address.
The event will also felicitate meritorious students, including Kumar Ganesh Sahadev Bosthe, who secured third rank in the SSLC examination, and Srushti Patil, who topped the state in the PUC Arts stream.
Organisers Siddalinga B. Konek and Sharanu B. Konek said the programme aims to honour spiritual leadership, promote literature, and encourage academic excellence.
