Will Jacks set for first IPL 2026 appearance as Mumbai seek campaign revival

England all-rounder expected to strengthen struggling Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad clash Wednesday

Will Jacks is set to make his first appearance of IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians as the five-time champions look to revive their faltering campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Jacks, who arrived late for the season due to international commitments, trained extensively at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday evening, strongly indicating he will be drafted straight into the playing XI for the crucial encounter.

The England all-rounder was expected to play a major role for Mumbai this season after an impressive ICC T20 World Cup campaign, where he collected four Player-of-the-Match awards. However, his delayed arrival had left fans wondering when — or even if — he would join the squad.

Mumbai’s season has already slipped into dangerous territory with five defeats from seven matches, leaving little margin for further setbacks. The team’s heavy home defeat to Chennai Super Kings last week only intensified pressure on the squad and leadership group.

Jacks’ inclusion has become even more significant following the injury to Mitchell Santner, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a shoulder injury sustained against Chennai.

The 27-year-old is expected to provide much-needed balance to the Mumbai side. Captain Hardik Pandya has struggled to deliver consistently with the bat this season, and Jacks’ aggressive finishing ability could add depth to a batting line-up that has failed to click regularly.

Apart from his batting, Jacks’ off-spin may also prove crucial against Hyderabad’s left-handed heavy batting unit. Mumbai management believes his all-round versatility can offer greater flexibility in team combinations during the business end of the tournament.

Head coach Mahela Jayawardene and the team leadership are hoping Jacks’ arrival sparks a turnaround in fortunes as Mumbai chase momentum in a tightly contested IPL season.

For Mumbai Indians, the upcoming clash could mark a defining point — and Jacks may well become the catalyst they desperately need.
