Mangaluru
Water levels at the Thumbe dam, a key source of drinking water for Mangaluru, have dropped to 4.47 metres, the lowest in seven years, due to intense summer heat and poor rainfall. Authorities announced water supply on alternate days starting May 1. Officials said reduced pre-monsoon rains and rising demand have worsened the situation. The city needs about 160 million litres daily, raising concerns over supply. Other reservoirs may ease pressure slightly. With monsoon expected soon, residents are urged to use water carefully and avoid wastage to prevent a severe crisis in coming weeks.
