MANGALURU
In a major victory for long-term law enforcement, the Mangaluru North Police have successfully captured a man who had been dodging the legal system for nearly two years. The suspect, identified as fifty-nine-year-old Goods Muneer, also known as T.P. Muneer or Ahmed, was finally tracked down by officers who had been searching for him across the city.
Muneer’s legal troubles trace back nearly three decades to a criminal case registered in 1998. The charges against him include rioting and arson, serious offenses that have been pending in the district courts for years. While the case moved forward, Muneer allegedly stopped showing up for his scheduled hearings about two years ago. This disappearance led the III Additional District and Sessions Court to issue an official warrant for his immediate arrest.
A resident of Bunder, Muneer had been living quietly in a rented apartment in the Kulashekhar area to avoid detection. However, diligent police work eventually led officers to his doorstep. After his arrest, he was brought directly before the court to answer for his absence. The judge has now remanded him to judicial custody, ensuring he will remain behind bars as the legal proceedings continue.
Local authorities stated that this arrest sends a clear message that the passage of time does not erase a person’s legal responsibilities. No matter how long a suspect hides or how old the case is, the police remain committed to bringing individuals back to face the justice system.
