KKR’s Angkrish Raghuvanshi fined for emotional reaction after dismissal incident

Raghuvanshi fined after emotional outburst following obstructing the field dismissal incident

Kolkata

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point after an emotional on-field outburst during his team’s IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants.

The incident took place during the fifth over when Raghuvanshi was given out for obstructing the field following a third-umpire review. The decision triggered a visibly frustrated reaction from the young batter, who struck the boundary cushion with his bat before throwing his helmet into the dugout area.

The Indian Premier League confirmed the sanction on Monday, stating that Raghuvanshi had breached Level 1 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. According to the official statement, he was found guilty under Article 2.2, which deals with the abuse of cricket equipment or fixtures during a match.

The league further added that Raghuvanshi admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee, bringing the matter to a close without the need for a formal hearing.

Despite the incident, KKR went on to win the high-pressure encounter against Lucknow Super Giants via a Super Over, capping off a dramatic contest that had swung both ways during regulation play.

The dismissal itself added to the intensity of an already charged match situation, with players from both sides awaiting the third umpire’s decision before Raghuvanshi was adjudged out for obstructing the field.

His reaction, however, drew attention post-match, with officials reviewing the incident quickly in line with league protocols. The demerit point now places him under monitoring for future matches, as per IPL disciplinary rules.

Team management is expected to counsel the young batter on maintaining composure in high-pressure situations, especially given the stakes involved in close matches.

KKR, meanwhile, will focus on maintaining momentum after the narrow Super Over victory, while also addressing on-field discipline within the squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures in IPL 2026.
