ADAMAWA
The Islamic State (ISIS) has officially claimed responsibility for a brutal massacre that left at least 29 people dead in Nigeria’s Adamawa state. The group issued a statement following the assault on the Guyaku community, located within the Gombi Local Government Area, where armed gunmen targeted unsuspecting residents in a wave of violence.
State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri visited the grieving community to assess the damage and offer support to survivors. Describing the incident as “tragic and unacceptable,” the Governor confirmed the death toll and condemned the killers. He called the assault a “cowardly act” and an affront to humanity, promising that those responsible for the bloodshed would face justice.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the region, which has long struggled with various security threats. In response to the tragedy, Governor Fintiri announced that security operations are being immediately intensified across the province. The goal is to restore order and ensure that residents can feel safe in their homes once again.
Local authorities and security agencies are currently investigating the specific details of the breach to prevent future incursions. As the community begins to bury its dead, the government has appealed for calm while reinforcing military presence in vulnerable border areas. This latest claim by ISIS highlights the persistent threat of extremist groups in West Africa and the ongoing challenge for Nigerian forces to maintain stability in remote rural territories.
