India bow out of Uber Cup with 0–5 defeat to China

Sindhu fights hard but India outclassed as China dominate Group A clash completely

PV Sindhu led from the front but India Women crashed out of the Uber Cup Finals after suffering a comprehensive 0–5 defeat to China in their final Group A tie.

The result marked the end of India’s campaign after an opening 2–3 loss to hosts Denmark and a convincing 4–1 win over Ukraine earlier in the group stage.

Facing the most successful team in Uber Cup history, China women’s badminton team, India struggled to convert key moments despite fighting performances across matches.

Sindhu came close to turning the tie in India’s favour during the opening singles against world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi. She led 18–12 in the deciding game but eventually lost 16–21, 21–19, 19–21 after a dramatic turnaround.

The defeat gave China a 1–0 lead, and the momentum never shifted thereafter.

In doubles, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra were overpowered by the world No. 1 pair Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning, going down 11–21, 8–21.

India’s second singles player Isharani Baruah showed flashes of brilliance against Tokyo Olympic champion Chen Yufei but committed errors at crucial stages to lose 22–20, 21–13, giving China an unassailable 3–0 lead.

The pair of Treesa Jolly and Kavipriya Selvam fought hard in their doubles match but went down 10–21, 21–12, 19–21 in a closely contested encounter.

In the final singles, Devika Sihag started strongly but faded against Xu Wen Jing, losing 21–19, 17–21, 10–21.

Sindhu later reflected on her narrow loss, admitting that despite creating multiple chances, she was unable to close out the match.

“We were fighting very hard for every point. I had chances, but I couldn’t convert them,” Sindhu said.

With this defeat, India end their Uber Cup journey on a disappointing note, while China continue their dominant run in the tournament. Attention will now shift to India’s men’s team, who face China in the upcoming Thomas Cup encounter.
