Health Department issues summer safety advisory measures

Koppal

With temperatures rising sharply across Koppal district, the District Health and Family Welfare Department has issued a public advisory urging people to take precautions to stay safe during the summer season.

District Health Officer Dr T Lingaraju said special care is needed for vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and the elderly. He advised people to drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if they do not feel thirsty, to avoid dehydration.

The department recommended consuming natural drinks like lemon water and buttermilk, along with fruits and vegetables that have high water content such as watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and grapes.

People have been advised to wear light-colored, loose cotton clothes and avoid going out in the sun between 12 noon and 3 pm. If stepping out is necessary, using umbrellas, hats, and protective footwear is suggested.

In case of heat-related illness, officials said a person should be moved to a cool place immediately, the body cooled with a wet cloth, and medical help sought without delay.

Authorities also advised that outdoor events and gatherings should be planned during early morning or evening hours, with proper shade and drinking water arrangements.

Pet owners have been asked to ensure animals are kept in shaded areas and given enough water. The department warned against leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles.

People were also advised to avoid alcohol and excessive intake of tea, coffee, and soft drinks during the hot weather period.
