‘Bumper gift’ likely for DK Shivakumar by May 15: MLA Ranganath

Leadership buzz grows as Congress circles hint at major decision soon

Bengaluru

Amid renewed speculation over leadership changes in the state Congress, Kunigal MLA Dr Ranganath has hinted that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar may receive a “bumper gift” from the party high command, possibly around his birthday on May 15.

Speaking to reporters, Ranganath expressed confidence that Shivakumar would soon be entrusted with a “good position,” fuelling fresh discussions about a possible change in the Chief Minister’s post. “We must do our work sincerely and leave the results to God. DK Shivakumar is working with full commitment for the party, and we believe he will be rewarded appropriately,” he said.

Ranganath’s remarks have reignited debate over the widely discussed power-sharing arrangement within the Congress leadership in Karnataka. While he stopped short of confirming any formal agreement, he acknowledged that such a perception exists among party workers and the public. “There is a belief that an agreement exists, but the high command must clarify its nature and remove confusion,” he noted.

Adding intrigue, the MLA suggested that significant developments could unfold soon. “May 15 is his birthday. We hope he receives some good or ‘sweet’ news by then,” he said, sparking speculation across political circles.

At the same time, Ranganath praised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for providing stable governance, while reiterating that many in the party wish to see Shivakumar assume the top post in the future. “Whatever decision the high command takes, we will abide by it. The right time will come for everything,” he added, quoting a philosophical line to underline patience.

He also dismissed allegations made by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy regarding the health of former minister D Sudhakar, stating that there was no attempt to hide information. Ranganath clarified that Sudhakar had been undergoing treatment for complications related to a long-standing condition and required medical intervention.

In a related development, Ranganath hinted at internal discussions on a possible cabinet reshuffle. He said some party leaders have already visited Delhi to meet the high command, while another delegation is expected to follow soon.

The comments come at a time when political activity within the Congress appears to be intensifying, with multiple signals pointing toward possible organisational or leadership changes in the near future.
