Bengaluru police arrest 24 in IPL black ticket crackdown near Chinnaswamy Stadium

BENGALURU

Bengaluru City Police have intensified their crackdown on the illegal sale of IPL tickets, arresting 24 people and seizing 37 tickets during a month-long drive conducted around the ongoing IPL 2026 matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to police officials, a total of 17 cases related to black marketing of IPL tickets have been registered in the last one month. Of these, 16 cases were booked at Cubbon Park Police Station, while one case was registered at Halasuru Gate Police Station.

Police said the accused allegedly procured match tickets through various means and attempted to resell them at inflated prices to cricket fans desperate to attend the matches.

Most of the arrests were made by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), which launched a special operation to monitor and curb illegal ticket sales during the IPL season.

Authorities stated that the accused were found approaching fans near the stadium and surrounding areas, offering tickets at rates significantly higher than official prices.

The crackdown comes amid massive public demand for tickets during IPL matches in Bengaluru, with large crowds gathering for games involving popular franchises.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) Akshay said police are taking strict action to ensure fair access to tickets and prevent exploitation of cricket fans.

He added that the special enforcement drive would continue throughout the IPL season and warned that further legal action would be taken against anyone involved in black marketing activities.

Police have also appealed to the public to buy tickets only through authorised platforms and immediately report any suspicious sale of match tickets in the black market.
