Air hostess aspirant alleges stalking, harassment; three detained in Bagalur

Bengaluru

A 20-year-old air hostess aspirant has filed a complaint alleging persistent stalking and harassment by three men during her daily commute near Bagalur, prompting police to detain the accused.

According to the complaint, the student, who is undergoing training at a private college in east Bengaluru, was repeatedly followed by the accused—residents of her village—while she travelled between her home and the bus stop. She alleged that the trio, led by a 22-year-old man, would tail her on a scooter, pass lewd remarks and intimidate her on a regular basis.

The harassment reportedly escalated on April 19 when the accused made objectionable comments, leaving the student distressed and fearful of stepping out alone. She later informed her mother about the incidents.

On April 23, the situation took a serious turn. After missing her usual bus around 9 am, the student began walking back home after speaking to her father. During this time, the accused allegedly approached her from behind on a scooter and struck her on the back.

Shocked and humiliated, she rushed home and narrated the incident to her family, who supported her in approaching the police. A case was subsequently registered at the Bagalur Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 75 (sexual harassment).

Police officials confirmed that the accused have been detained and are being questioned. During interrogation, the main accused reportedly claimed that he was in love with the woman and had been trying to reconnect with her after she stopped speaking to him. He also alleged that the physical contact was accidental.

Authorities, however, are treating the matter seriously, noting the pattern of repeated harassment and intimidation. Further investigation is underway, and police have assured appropriate legal action based on evidence.

The case has once again highlighted concerns over women’s safety during daily commutes and the need for stricter vigilance and swift intervention in cases of stalking and harassment.
