NEW DELHI
Nearly two decades after the infamous “slapgate” incident, former Indian pacer Sreesanth has reignited his feud with Harbhajan Singh. In a scathing interview, Sreesanth accused the former spinner of profiting from their 2008 physical altercation. The outburst was triggered by a recent commercial where Harbhajan jokes about “slapping” electronics to fix them, a clear nod to the incident that once shook the cricketing world.
Sreesanth revealed that he was deeply hurt by the advertisement, claiming Harbhajan earned between 80 lakh and 1 crore from the deal. What infuriated him further was when Harbhajan allegedly called him to help promote the ad on social media. Sreesanth’s response was cold, stating that while he might forgive, he will never forget. He has since blocked the legendary spinner on Instagram, ending what he described as a fake “brotherly” bond.
The original incident occurred during the first season of the IPL when Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth after a match. While both players had seemingly moved on over the years, Sreesanth now claims Harbhajan’s public apologies are merely an act. He noted that even his parents taught him to be wary of those who repeat their mistakes.
Harbhajan has previously questioned why old wounds are being reopened, but for Sreesanth, the commercial was the final straw. He stated he no longer wishes to have any relationship with his former teammate, wishing him well but choosing to walk away from the long-standing drama for good.
