The initiative aims to expand quality heart care services to residents in the western parts of the city and nearby districts.
The project took a significant leap forward after an official agreement was signed between the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the Jayadeva Institute. This move fulfills one of the key promises made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the state budget, emphasizing improved healthcare infrastructure.
The upcoming cardiac unit will operate from the GBA Multi-Speciality Hospital building located in Govindarajanagar. Once functional, it is expected to greatly benefit residents of several prominent areas in Bengaluru, including Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, Yeshwanthpur, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Dasarahalli, and Peenya. In addition, patients from neighboring districts such as Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Mandya, Tumakuru, and Hassan will also have easier access to emergency cardiac care.
Health officials have highlighted that this initiative will significantly reduce the burden on the main Jayadeva Hospital located on Bannerghatta Road, which currently caters to a large volume of patients from across the state. With the new unit in place, patients from western Bengaluru will no longer need to travel long distances during critical situations.
The new facility will feature 100 beds and is designed to provide world-class cardiac treatment at affordable costs, ensuring that even economically weaker sections can access life-saving care. The government has emphasized that timely intervention during the golden hour — the crucial period following a cardiac emergency — can greatly improve survival rates, and this new unit will play a vital role in achieving that goal.
According to the Medical Education Minister, the expansion of cardiac services into Bengaluru’s western region marks a transformative step in public healthcare delivery. The initiative is expected to enhance emergency response, improve patient outcomes, and strengthen the overall healthcare network in Karnataka.
The establishment of this new Jayadeva unit reflects the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare access and is poised to bring significant relief to thousands of heart patients across the region.
