MUMBAI
The Mumbai Cricket Association has officially unveiled the player retention list for the 2026 T20 Mumbai League, featuring some of the biggest names in Indian cricket. Leading the pack are international stars Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Shivam Dube, ensuring the upcoming fourth season will be a high-voltage affair.
Each of the eight franchises has retained a core of three players, balancing world-class experience with promising local talent. The Triumph Knights have held onto Suryakumar Yadav as their “Icon Player” following his success leading India to a world title. Meanwhile, other teams have secured heavy hitters like Shardul Thakur, Sarfaraz Khan, and Tushar Deshpande. Young stars Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ajinkya Rahane have also been assigned as Icon Players for their respective franchises.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated that these retentions prove the league’s growing credibility. He noted that allowing young athletes to share a dressing room with global icons is vital for the development of Mumbai’s domestic cricket. The league has historically been a successful scouting ground for the IPL and the national team.
With the core squads now locked in, the excitement moves to the upcoming player auction. Franchises will look to fill their remaining spots to challenge the defending champions, Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals. As the city gears up for another summer of cricket, fans are eager to see if this mix of seasoned veterans and fresh faces can raise the standard of the local game to new heights.
