Bangladesh stars fined for breaking cricket rules

DUBAI

The International Cricket Council has penalized Bangladesh players Nahida Akter and Sarmin Sultana following a tense second One Day International against Sri Lanka. Both cricketers were fined 10 percent of their match fees after losing their cool during the high-stakes game in Rajshahi. This disciplinary action highlights the growing intensity of the Women’s Championship series as teams battle for crucial points.

Nahida Akter was caught breaking the rules regarding player conduct after she dismissed Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu. Instead of celebrating with her teammates, Nahida gave the batter a “send-off” by gesturing toward the pavilion. Officials deemed this behavior provocative and disrespectful. Meanwhile, Sarmin Sultana faced trouble for showing clear anger toward an umpire’s decision. After being given out, Sarmin stayed at the crease and pointed to her bat, delaying the game to show she disagreed with the call.

In addition to the financial penalty, both players received one demerit point on their official records. Since this was their first offense in two years, they avoided a more severe suspension. Both athletes admitted to their mistakes and accepted the punishment, meaning no formal legal hearings were necessary.

The drama on the field matched the excitement of the scoreboard. Sri Lanka won the match to tie the series at 1-1, setting the stage for a final showdown. As the two nations face off in the deciding game, officials are keeping a close watch to ensure emotions don’t boil over again.
