New volleyball league to support local athletes

New Delhi

A groundbreaking new sports initiative is set to transform the lives of athletes in the national capital. The Delhi Pro Volleyball League (DPVL), announced earlier this year, aims to provide players with more than just a place to play, it focuses on financial stability and long term professional recognition. This “player first” movement wants to ensure that talent is rewarded with a sustainable career path rather than just personal passion.

Founded by former national players Neeti Rawat and Jasoda Gulliya, the DPVL is India’s first women led professional volleyball league. The duo combines athletic experience with expertise in media and finance to create a solid foundation for the sport. Rawat, a sports broadcasting expert, aims to boost the league’s visibility, while Gulliya focuses on building a business model that offers players real economic security.

The league is scheduled to debut later in 2026, following the conclusion of the IPL cricket season. It will feature six franchise teams, including names like the Purani Dilli Panthers and New Delhi Titans. Matches are expected to take place at iconic venues such as the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

With the official backing of the Delhi Volleyball Association, the DPVL intends to build a complete ecosystem. This includes professional training, media partnerships, and clear pathways for youth development. By empowering athletes and increasing the sport’s commercial value, the founders hope to turn volleyball into a household name and a viable profession for the next generation of Indian stars.
