Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar have been formally invited to participate in the 622nd Urs celebrations of the historic Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah, scheduled from May 3 to 5 in Kalaburagi.
The invitation was extended by Dr. Hafiz Syed Muhammad Ali Al Hussaini, Peethadhipati of the Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah and Chairman of the Karnataka State Waqf Board. He personally visited the residences of both leaders to hand over the invitation and requested their participation in the annual event.
The Urs celebration is one of the most significant religious gatherings in northern Karnataka, drawing devotees from across India. It is widely regarded as a symbol of communal harmony, reflecting the teachings and legacy of the Sufi saint Khwaja Banda Nawaz.
Dr. Al Hussaini emphasised that the event promotes peace, unity, and brotherhood among communities, and said the presence of top state leaders would add importance to the occasion.
The delegation accompanying him included MLA Rizwan Arshad, Salim Ahmed, MLC Balkees Banu, Hyder Ali Pasha, and other community leaders, who also participated in extending the invitation.
The Urs is expected to witness large-scale participation, with arrangements being made for devotees, including special prayers, cultural programmes, and religious rituals over the three-day event.
Authorities and organisers are coordinating to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations, which hold deep spiritual and cultural significance in the region.
