IPL 2026: Starc cleared for IPL return, set to boost Delhi Capitals on May 1

New Delhi

Mitchell Starc has been cleared by Cricket Australia to return to the Indian Premier League, with the left-arm quick expected to feature for Delhi Capitals in their clash against Rajasthan Royals on May 1.

Starc has been sidelined since January due to elbow and shoulder niggles, missing the initial phase of the tournament. His return comes as a major boost for Delhi, who currently sit fifth on the points table with three wins and three losses from six matches.

The 36-year-old was last seen in action during Australia’s victorious The Ashes campaign, where he played all five Tests and earned the Player of the Series award. He then featured briefly in the Big Bash League for Sydney Sixers before being ruled out to manage his injuries.

According to reports, Starc is currently building up his workload in India and is on track to make his IPL 2026 debut in the upcoming fixture. His presence is expected to significantly strengthen Delhi’s pace attack, especially given his impact in the previous season, where he picked up 14 wickets in 11 matches and emerged as the team’s leading fast bowler.

Starc’s absence earlier had sparked debate around the participation of overseas players in the IPL. Responding to criticism, the Australian pacer had taken to social media to clarify his situation, stating that he was undergoing rehabilitation and managing injuries sustained during the Australian summer. He also criticised what he described as “misinformed opinions” regarding his commitment and fitness.

Meanwhile, other Australian stars are also making their way back into the IPL. Captain Pat Cummins is set to appear for Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Josh Hazlewood has already resumed duties for Royal Challengers Bengaluru after missing early matches.

With Starc’s return, Delhi Capitals will look to regain momentum and strengthen their playoff push in the coming games.
