District Collector C. N. Sridhar said the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya continue to guide society and remain relevant in all times.
He was speaking at the inauguration of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya Jayanti held at Sri Shankara Math on Sambapur Road, organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Kannada and Culture Department.
Sridhar said Shankaracharya played a key role in preserving Sanatan Dharma during a time when it was under threat. He added that Shankaracharya travelled from Kanyakumari to Kashmir spreading spiritual knowledge and promoting unity and harmony.
He described Sanatan Dharma as a way of life and said peace and good health are essential for achieving success. He also highlighted Shankaracharya’s Advaita philosophy, including the idea of “Aham Brahmasmi,” which teaches unity of the soul and the Supreme.
Senior officer M.T. Bhatt explained that Shankaracharya preached Advaita Vedanta and worked for social harmony across the country. He said Shankaracharya’s contributions to spiritual and cultural life remain significant even today.
Speakers noted that Shankaracharya travelled across India and strengthened religious unity through his teachings and actions. Several achievers and community elders were honoured during the programme.
Officials, scholars and community members attended the event, which included Vedic chanting and cultural presentations, highlighting the lasting impact of Shankaracharya’s philosophy on society and national unity.
