Civic body invites citizens to join Census 2027 work through interviews
BENGALURU
In a significant step to streamline the upcoming census process, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has opened its doors to the public, announcing plans to recruit around 1,000 enumerators through a direct interview process. The initiative aims to ensure efficient and timely completion of Census 2027 activities while encouraging citizen participation in a key national exercise.
The selection process will be conducted at Town Hall, where eligible candidates will be shortlisted through interviews. Officials said the move is designed to attract youth and qualified individuals by offering an honorarium and an opportunity to contribute to large-scale data collection work.
Applicants must have a minimum qualification of second PUC or higher and should possess a smartphone with at least Android 12 and 4GB RAM, as enumeration will be carried out digitally. Preference will be given to residents within BBMP limits, particularly from constituencies such as CV Raman Nagar, Shantinagar, Shivajinagar, Chamarajpet, Chikkapete and Gandhinagar.
Authorities have clarified that selected candidates must be willing to work continuously, including on holidays, as the census schedule is already underway. The house listing and housing census phase began on April 16 and will continue until May 15, 2026. During this period, each enumerator will be assigned around 150 to 200 households. An honorarium of ₹9,000 will be provided for this phase in line with Census 2027 guidelines.
The second phase is scheduled for February 2027, during which enumerators will collect detailed population data covering approximately 750 to 800 individuals or 150 to 200 households. For this stage, an honorarium of ₹16,000 will be paid.
Officials added that all selected candidates will undergo mandatory training before being deployed in the field to ensure accuracy and consistency in data collection. The GBA emphasised that the recruitment is temporary and strictly limited to census work, with no assurance of permanent employment. Final selection will be made at the discretion of the GBA Commissioner.
