‘Nitish’s over sequencing improves control, aiding powerplay and death overs impact’

Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach James Franklin has praised all-rounder Nitish Kumar for his impressive development with both ball and tactical awareness in IPL 2026.
He noted that Nitish Kumar has taken on a larger bowling responsibility this season, delivering 13 overs in six matches compared to just 23.1 overs across his previous three IPL campaigns combined.
The 26-year-old has impressed with both the new ball and at the death, using improved pace after working with Steffan Jones to consistently touch 140kph, adding a sharper edge to his all-round value.
Franklin said Nitish is in a very good frame of mind, adding that his improved planning and execution against different batters has been key to his early success in the tournament so far.
He emphasised that the way Nitish sequences his overs has helped him control phases of the game better, allowing him to contribute effectively in both powerplay and death overs.
At the same time, Franklin called for patience with young bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, noting that inconsistency is part of their learning curve in a demanding tournament like the IPL.
Praful, who began his IPL career strongly with a four-wicket haul, has also faced expensive spells, but the coaching staff believes such experiences will aid his long-term growth.
Franklin concluded that SRH remain focused on building consistency across their bowling unit as they prepare for a crucial phase of the IPL 2026 season.
SRH management, according to Franklin, is also encouraging young players to take responsibility without fear of failure, especially in high-pressure situations against strong opposition like Delhi Capitals.
We believe in the potential of this group, but development takes time and exposure, and we are seeing positive signs in how players are responding to challenges this season, Franklin added.
With SRH aiming to climb the points table, Franklin stressed that consistency from emerging bowlers alongside Nitish Kumar’s continued all-round contributions will be crucial as they look to secure a playoff berth in IPL 2026 moving forward in the season with renewed confidence and clarity overall team focus.
