The daring heist took place around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Khanpur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mahnar police station. According to police officials, nearly six armed robbers targeted the house of Ranjit Kumar Shah, a local jewellery shop owner, and looted more than 50 grams of gold ornaments along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The attackers reportedly entered the premises by climbing over the boundary wall and forcibly cutting through the main gate. As the gang began breaking into the house, family members raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to gather outside. However, none of the locals attempted to intervene due to the presence of weapons carried by the robbers.
To further intimidate residents and prevent resistance, the criminals detonated a crude bomb during the incident. The explosion created panic in the area, allowing the gang to continue their operation uninterrupted. The robbers reportedly spent nearly 30 minutes inside the house, searching thoroughly before fleeing with valuables.
Ranjit Kumar Shah alleged that despite immediately informing the police, officers arrived at the scene only around 3 a.m., by which time the culprits had already escaped. He also stated that the robbers assaulted family members during the attack, leaving his son injured.
Confirming the incident, Mahnar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Praveen Kumar said that a forensic team has been deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene. He added that CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined to identify the suspects. Notably, the robbers failed to take the DVR, which is expected to play a crucial role in the investigation.
Police officials suspect possible involvement of local individuals and have assured that the case will be solved soon, with efforts underway to track down and arrest the accused.
