NEW DELHI
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has launched an exciting nationwide contest to design the official mascot for the BWF World Championships 2026. This creative initiative invites fans and artists of all ages to help shape the visual identity of the prestigious tournament, which returns to Indian soil after a long seventeen-year gap.
As New Delhi prepares to host the world’s best shuttlers from August 17 to 23, the BAI wants a mascot that reflects India’s cultural diversity and its rise as a global badminton powerhouse. Over the last decade, Indian athletes have secured fifteen World Championship medals, including PV Sindhu’s historic gold. This contest aims to celebrate that success through a “fan-first” approach, giving the public a chance to contribute to the event’s legacy.
The competition is open until May 10. The lucky winner will receive a cash prize of ₹25,000 and exclusive VIP tickets to the tournament’s high-stakes semi-finals or finals. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and how well they blend modern Indian spirit with the energy of badminton.
BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra noted that the sport is now loved in every corner of the country. By involving the community, the federation hopes to create a symbol that resonates globally while showcasing local talent. This mascot will eventually become the face of the championships, appearing in promotional campaigns as the world converges on India in pursuit of the sport’s highest honors.
