BENGALURU
The streets of Bengaluru are set to come alive, as the 18th World 10K kicks off with a massive crowd of over 35,000 runners. This year’s race has seen record-breaking interest, with the main event selling out in just one week, proving that distance running is now India’s fastest-growing sport.
Defending champions Abhishek Pal and Sanjivani Jadhav are returning to lead the pack. Pal, the current event record holder, faces stiff competition from marathon star Kartik Karkera. Meanwhile, Sanjivani Jadhav enters the race in top form after her recent victory at the Mumbai Marathon. They will compete for a share of the impressive $210,000 prize fund alongside international stars like Uganda’s Harbert Kibet and Sarah Chelangat.
Adding to the excitement, Olympic medalist Blanka Vlasic will be at the Cubbon Road starting line as the event’s global ambassador. Indian hockey star Jarmanpreet Singh also joined the festivities to reveal a special “Finisher Tee” for the top 1,500 runners, noting that the discipline required for hockey and long-distance running is remarkably similar.
This year, participants will receive a unique “running passport” to track their progress. Every finisher gets a special stamp to mark their achievement, turning the document into a lifelong memento of their fitness journey. Whether running on the ground or joining virtually, the event highlights the city’s vibrant “Endendigu Bengaluru” spirit, uniting professional athletes and hobbyists in a massive celebration of health and community.
