Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka has been named as a replacement for injured England fast bowler Brydon Carse in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for the remainder of IPL 2026, the league confirmed on Tuesday. The change comes as SRH look to reinforce their pace attack following Carse’s injury setback ahead of the tournament.
Carse had sustained a hand injury during a net session ahead of SRH’s IPL opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last month, ruling him out of action for the season. The England pacer, who last featured in international cricket during the Ashes series in January, was expected to play a key role in the franchise’s new-ball strategy before the injury disrupted plans.
Madushanka, known for his ability to swing the ball at pace, joins SRH for a fee of Rs 75 lakh. He brings valuable international experience, having represented Sri Lanka in one Test, 28 One-Day Internationals, and 19 T20 Internationals. Across formats, he has taken a total of 70 wickets, establishing himself as a promising left-arm seam option in white-ball cricket.
The Sri Lankan pacer is not new to the IPL environment, having previously been part of the Mumbai Indians setup, where he gained exposure to high-pressure franchise cricket and subcontinental conditions. His return to the league is expected to add depth and variety to SRH’s bowling unit.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have been actively managing their squad balance in IPL 2026, and Madushanka’s inclusion is seen as a direct effort to maintain their pace versatility in Carse’s absence. The franchise is expected to utilise him primarily with the new ball, where his natural angle as a left-armer could provide early breakthroughs.
Team management believes Madushanka’s international experience and familiarity with Indian conditions will help him adapt quickly to the demands of the tournament. His ability to swing the ball and bowl in the powerplay overs is expected to be a key asset as SRH continue their campaign.
With the tournament entering a crucial phase, SRH will hope the Sri Lankan quick can seamlessly fill the void left by Carse and contribute to their push for consistency in IPL 2026.
