With campaigning entering its final phase ahead of the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Joseph Vijay is set to address a major public rally in Kanyakumari district on Sunday.
The rally will see Vijay campaigning for TVK candidates contesting across six key Assembly constituencies in the district — Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Colachel, Vilavancode, Killiyoor, and Padmanabhapuram. The highlight of the visit will be a large public meeting scheduled at the Vivekananda College Ground near Kanyakumari, where thousands of supporters are anticipated to gather.

Party officials had initially sought permission to hold the rally from 2 pm to 10 pm. However, authorities granted approval with restrictions, limiting the event duration from 2 pm to 8 pm. Officials cited security and regulatory concerns while imposing the six-hour cap.

The rally comes at a critical juncture as the Election Commission of India has mandated that campaigning must conclude by the evening of April 21. With limited time remaining, political parties across the state have intensified their outreach activities to connect with voters.

Leading the campaign charge for the ruling party, M. K. Stalin continues an aggressive schedule, addressing multiple public meetings daily. Meanwhile, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, representing the opposition, is actively conducting roadshows across various constituencies to consolidate support.

In addition, Seeman remains on an extensive campaign trail, touring different regions to mobilise voters for his party candidates.

Ahead of Vijay’s visit, senior TVK leaders Anand and Sengottaiyan are overseeing preparations in Kanyakumari district. The inspection includes reviewing security arrangements, stage construction, and logistical coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

Vijay’s rally is being viewed as a significant boost to TVK’s campaign, particularly in southern Tamil Nadu. As the election battle reaches its final stretch, the event is expected to play a key role in energising party workers and influencing voter sentiment in the region.
