Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her government failed to act while women in various parts of the state faced harassment and violence.
Addressing a public gathering, Amit Shah accused the state leadership of turning a blind eye to incidents involving the alleged torture and humiliation of women. He claimed that such acts were carried out by individuals backed by the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, raising serious concerns about law and order in the state.
The Union Home Minister stated that the safety and dignity of women should be a top priority for any government. He alleged that despite multiple incidents being reported from different regions of West Bengal, the state administration did not take adequate action to prevent such occurrences or ensure justice for victims.
Shah’s remarks come amid an intensifying political climate, with opposition parties increasingly targeting the West Bengal government over governance and security issues. He emphasized that the central government remains committed to ensuring the safety of citizens and upholding constitutional values across the country.
Meanwhile, the ruling party in West Bengal has strongly denied such allegations in the past, often accusing opposition leaders of politicizing isolated incidents. Leaders from the Trinamool Congress have maintained that law enforcement agencies in the state act promptly and that efforts are continuously made to ensure women’s safety.
The exchange highlights the growing political tensions between the Centre and the West Bengal government, especially on issues related to governance and public safety. As political rhetoric intensifies, such statements are expected to further fuel debates ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
