Anand Nagar residents allege poor infrastructure despite upscale homes, citing bad roads, drainage issues, and inadequate civic amenities
Vijayapura
Despite being home to luxurious houses and high-profile residents, Anand Nagar and surrounding localities present a stark picture of civic neglect, with residents alleging complete failure in basic infrastructure.
At first glance, the area resembles a posh enclave—lined with grand bungalows and upscale homes, almost like a “dollar colony.” However, beneath this façade lies a grim reality: no proper roads, poor drainage, and lack of basic amenities. Even a brief spell of rain turns the kaccha roads into muddy stretches, making movement extremely difficult. Localities such as Anand Nagar and Teachers Colony, located near Jnana Yogashram, have ironically earned the tag of “prestigious,” but remain far behind in terms of development. Residents and visitors alike struggle daily, as the area also houses religious centres and reputed educational institutions, leading to heavy movement of people.
Riding a two-wheeler on these roads has become a risky affair, with frequent skidding incidents reported due to uneven surfaces and potholes. The absence of streetlights further worsens the situation, especially at night, raising safety concerns. The area falls under the Nagthan Assembly constituency, represented by Congress MLA Vittal Katakdond. Residents have strongly criticized the MLA, stating that despite being from the ruling party, he has failed to address even the most basic civic issues.
“After getting elected, the MLA seems to have no time to listen to the grievances of the people. Only a few roads were partially developed, while the rest have been completely ignored,” alleged locals. They added that repeated appeals for road construction and infrastructure development have gone unanswered for years. With the monsoon approaching, the situation is expected to worsen, as waterlogging could make roads completely unusable. Frustration among residents is now reaching a boiling point. They have warned that if immediate action is not taken, they will be forced to launch protests, including road blockades, against the elected representatives and concerned authorities.
