India and the United States have held high-level discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in civil nuclear energy, LPG exports, and emerging areas such as coal gasification, strengthening their broader strategic energy partnership.
During his visit to the US, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged in talks with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright focused on advancing energy security and deepening bilateral energy trade. The discussions explored new opportunities for collaboration in both traditional and emerging energy sectors.
According to the Indian Embassy in Washington, the dialogue centred on strengthening the India-US Energy Partnership and identifying avenues to enhance long-term cooperation in energy supply chains and technology exchange. Both sides emphasised the importance of reliable and diversified energy sources.
US Ambassador to India Sergei Gor noted that the United States is prepared to expand cooperation with India in civil nuclear energy, alongside potential engagement in coal gasification projects and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exports. Officials said these areas could significantly enhance bilateral energy trade.
The talks also follow recent policy developments in India aimed at facilitating broader nuclear cooperation frameworks, which are expected to enable greater collaboration in advanced reactor technologies and fuel-cycle management.
Energy cooperation was highlighted as a key pillar of the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership, alongside defence and technology ties. Both countries reiterated their shared interest in ensuring energy security and supporting sustainable development goals.
Officials said the discussions reflect a growing convergence between New Delhi and Washington on the need for resilient energy systems amid global supply uncertainties. The engagement is expected to pave the way for deeper commercial partnerships and long-term strategic alignment in the energy sector.
