Ganja plants worth lakhs seized in Surpur; 1 Arrested

Excise officials seized ganja plants worth lakhs of rupees and arrested a man for illegally cultivating cannabis in his farmland in Naganur village of Kembhavi hobli in Surpur taluk. The accused has been identified as Basavaraj Belli, a resident of Naganur village. Acting on specific information, excise police conducted a raid on his land located on the Parasanhalli border and recovered 30 ganja plants weighing about 4.9 kg, which were being grown illegally. The accused was taken into custody and later remanded to judicial custody. The raid was carried out under the direction of Joint Excise Commissioner Sharada C Kolkar and Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Yadgir, and under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent of Excise Harsh Raj B. Excise Inspector Kedarnath S T has registered a case. The operation was carried out with the support of excise sub-inspectors Vasanth Kumar and Anil Kumar, along with head constables Yamanappa, Sampath Kumar, Sandeep Nayak, Ramesh Desai and Home Guards personnel.
