NEW DELHI
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is buzzing as India’s elite track and field stars gather for the Delhi leg of the Indian Open Series. The one-day event features a packed schedule, but all eyes are on a high-stakes showdown in the men’s javelin throw.
World Championships finalist Sachin Yadav is the man to beat. After a stunning fourth-place finish in Tokyo last year with a throw of 86.27m, Yadav is back on his home turf. He faces stiff competition from Asian Games silver medalist Kishore Kumar Jena, rising star Shivam Lohakare, and Rohit Yadav. This duel serves as a vital tune-up before the major domestic championships in May.
On the track, the 100m sprint promises to be a “mouth-watering” contest. National record holder Animesh Kujur will defend his speed against Gurindervir Singh, who recently grabbed the indoor 60m title. Meanwhile, in the 400m race, national record holder Vishal TK aims to replicate the 45.12 – second pace that made headlines last August. Fans are also cheering for Muhammed Ajmal, a key relay runner returning from injury.
The competition began at 6:00 a.m. with the grueling 10,000m race and will conclude under the lights at 8:10 p.m. with the 1,500m final. With massive participation across senior and junior categories, this third leg of the 16-stop series highlights the incredible depth and hunger within Indian athletics. Every throw and every dash today is a step toward international glory.
